Pee Wee hockey is open to players ages 11 and 12. Pee Wee is the first level of Competitive Hockey recognized by Hockey Canada. It is here players develop their skills in preparation for Bantam hockey. The players in this Competitive League could play any of the Competitive Pee Wee teams from any of the Associations in VIAHA. The Pee Wee level is the first year that players are introduced to body checking. The safety of the players is of primary importance and the Associations are committed in supplying special clinics for these players to learn how to give and take body-checks. The Goals for the Pee Wee age player are:
The teams begin their season with a Placement Round to determine which Division they will compete in. These Divisions are determined by the strength of the team not by the category of the Association. Once the League has been formed, the teams usually play between 10 and 15 league games where the players continue in their development. At the end of League Play, the teams are placed into a Play-off series based on their Association’s category to determine who will become the Vancouver Island District Champion and represent the Island at one of the four Pee Wee Provincial Championships that are held in different areas of the province each season. The four categories are Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 and Tier 4.
